Today was another fairly lazy day and one that I enjoyed very much!
With many of the other girls in our group coming back from their weekend getaways, there were only four of us left here still in Rome who had the day free to do what we wanted. And what did we do? Well besides sleeping in.....why what every art history student does with a free day Rome - we went to the beach!
Ok, so maybe it wasn't the most educational or productive use of our free day...but man was it just what I needed! When, after a 30-min metro ride, we finally made it and the smell of seawater hit my face, tons of memories of summer and lazy beach days came sweeping back through my head! I really couldn't wait to get in the water and even though it wasn't the cleanest beach I've ever been to, it felt so wonderful!! I probably could've stayed in all day - the water was a perfect temperature, the sun was just warm enough, and the cooling breezes that swept up from the waves kept everything simply....well, perfect!
Sabrina and I also packed a lunch so we didn't have to run off for food halfway through and the other girls were quite content to sit and soak up the sun too! I perhaps soaked up a little too much...my legs are a little pinker than I like...but it was totally worth it!
The beach itself was really quite interesting too. It's located in Ostia and has stretches of unique black sand that is made up of broken bits of shell, rocks, and such but is actually really soft to touch. Also, we could only find a small part of the beach where you didn't have to pay to get in, but it actually wasn't too crowded and we got a prime spot near the waves - perfect for making our awesome sandcastle!!
It was also very fun to watch the other beach-bums around us - there were definitely some tops missing, Italian men with beer bellies in speedos, couples making out like there might not be a tomorrow, and numerous bad tan lines....
Oh and then there were these pretty ladies... ;D
Overall, it was super relaxing and a really nice refresher that we all really enjoyed. Afterwards, MaShawn (the gal in the blue romper) came over to our place to share in our dinner of pesto-spaghetti and pan-fried veggies! We talked a bit and laughed alot and I definitely will miss these ladies as I head out for the rest of my adventures!
Because just a few more weeks and Tibby arrives! Then this blog will actually live up to it's name...haha.
Ah well, until then, ciao from the sunbathers!!
Looks like a relaxing day at the beach is just what the doctor ordered! Thanks, Ky, for posting the videos. Helps make it feel more like we're there with you on your journeys of seeing some amazing art. Take care, beloved daughter!
